2009 B2-B4: Address Bar Dosent Update Explorer Pane
-
In case this matters or helps - I also see the problem on WinXP SP2 with PA 2009 Beta 2.
-
is there any specific way you guys can reproduce this? we cant seem to reproduce it whatever we do…
thanks

I can reproduce it too (XP/Vista). It looks like the OnChange trigger of the dropdown list isn’t working when folders is disabled.
1. Make sure you open a version where explorer with folders in on.
2. Select the Explorer Display style. What I do notice, the filelist changes to a different folder than I had currently selected.
3. Now select a different folder from drop down list. It will never update the Filelist. -
I still see this bug present in Beta 4.
-
I also still see this problem with Beta 4 (running WinXP SP2). Note that (for me anyway) having the Folder window open or closed does not affect the problem. The problem only shows up for the files pane - the Folders pane gets updated properly.
-
maybe someone could make one of those flash movies so we can see how we can reproduce it? Works fine on 4-5 computers that we have tried with…
-
My 2 screenshots in post 7 describe the problem pretty good. If the folder treeview is visible with the files pane then what happens is the folder tree updates as it should. But the files pane still shows the contents of the previous folder.
If you have the folder tree off (which I do) then the files pane simply will never update no matter what location you type into the address bar and hit enter.
Really though in both instances, the files pane does not update. 1st screenshot shows with folder tree and second one shows without folder tree. So in the second one when the folder tree is off, there is no way to update the files pane by typing a new location. Type hit enter, nothing happens.

we still cant reproduce it, thats why I asked for the movie - it may explain it better…

I can make a movie (after installing some freeware app) but all it will show is a PA window with the file pane visible. Then the text C:\Windows being typed into the address bar followed by the enter key (which wont show). The files pane will not update and display the contents of C:\Windows.
I’ll make a movie. Maybe it will show something I am not describing.

Alright. I think this will do the trick… Goto: http://4input.com/PA/PA.htm

I have been unable to reproduce this when typing an entry - however, I did get the same result (no update) when choosing Desktop from the address dropdown.
Unfortuantely, like mwb1100, it is not reliably reproducible for me. I get the problem sporadically ( twice in about 15 attempts); also it does not persevere when trying different entries/selections from list

If I left the impression that this was difficult to repro, I’m sorry - I have no problems reproducing the problem. It happens for me each and every time, exactly the same as MarcFou describes. My only ‘contribution’ to this thread is that it happens for me on WinXP SP2 so it’s not a Vista specific problem.
-
Sadly I can reproduce this 100 times out of 100. In previous betas it would sometimes work. The only way it will work for me is to do the following…
-Type C:\ (for example)
-Hit Enter key
-Click the address box to select the text C:
-Press Enter again
-Files pane then updatesOtherwise type+enter does nothing. The only other info I can add is settings.
I do see one discrepency here. From the UI on the toolbar, under Folders I have “Explorer Display Style” NOT Explorer with Folders. But in the Preferences, View section it says: Viewing Style = Explorer style (with folders).
Could it be as simple as a conflict of settings? See attached.
Edit: Just realized I am using PC Tools ThreatFire (threatfire.com) and it installs a keyboard driver to monitor/detect key logging. Could the driver be the cause?

everything is fine there… can you send us your settings again at support at conexware.com?
thanks

Done. Hopefully it may provide some clues.
-
The issue remains in Beta 5.
-
I tried PA 2009 Beta 4 on another Win XP SP2 machine, and the problem does not occur on it. I don’t know what might be responsible for the different behavior between the two machines.
-
I mailed spwolf a movie how to reproduce the problem. So I guess this gets fixed.
