Review of Opera 15

:D
In my defence the guy was a complete prick. :D
Who knows but if it at least stays with a v12 structure then I for one will be testing it…:)
Yes so will I. It does everything I want from a browser so in the meantime I will stick with it.
@moles42:if however they eventually phase it out in favour of the ‘chrome-opera’
then it will be time to look elsewhere I think…:(I guess that would be back to firefox for me. Or I’ll maybe give Sleipnir a try as a few folk in the Opera blog comments have been praising it a fair bit. There’s no linux version though so it would be back to firefox on that.

I wasn’t aware of that browser…just popped over there and it reminds me of the early days of Opera as I was checking out their skins…:)
I felt bogged down with firefox after months and months of testing…:(
maybe I just got fed-up with all the plug-ins…:) -

I’d never heard of it before neither until a couple of weeks ago.

I often wonder if we expect just too much from a browser…
everyone wants or needs something different from a browser which is why
I think Opera became so popular…if the developers continue to go down this road whereby
they are taking the tweaking & modifying abilities from the end user then I just foresee
huge numbers looking elsewhere for a browser then can modify to their hearts content.surely the developers know why their browser became so popular in the first place…

I think they did know, but unfortunately Opera got rid of them. Restructuring I think they called it.
As it stands at the moment all 15 is useful for is the zombie user who only open their facebook page and spends their entire day there. If you need something more then you’re going to have to look elsewhere.

There has been a bit of a change as far as bookmarks are concerned, seems they weren’t quite prepared for the backlash that came their way. Whether that will repair the damage that has already been done or not I can’t say.
However, after listening to your feedback, the first thing we have done is to make sure to prioritize the work on native bookmarking functionality.

Interesting…it may be then that they have decided to stop and listen to their users.
all is not lost then…:DI’m still testing v15 with about 5 or 6 of the ‘chrome’ extensions which replaced some of the missing opera
functions we were used to…it’s still nowhere near as good as v12 and earlier with my custom menus though. -

I just found it far too annoying to use, even just for testing purposes and it’s no longer on my system. Maybe once the bookmarks are reinstated I’ll give it another go.
Oh and an option to turn off that stupid discover feature too. :D -
Finally gave up on it again today and returned to O12.16…
so much nicer being able to tweak and modify at my leisure…:)
I must admit though I was enjoying a couple of those chrome extensions…:) -
is it getting any better?
-
No…
depends what you’re looking for in a browser I suppose…
I keep checking the latest builds but it going to be a while
before it gets close to Opera 12.15 usabilities.currently checking Opera v18.0.1277.0

Other than a couple of settings you can change via flags, there’s nothing to get excited about. Still no bloody bookmarks except for a bookmarks bar and if they think that is suitable as a replacement they are seriously deluded.
Still try every build as it comes along, shake my head at how the mighty have fallen, then remove it once again. :(

it seems to be just a reskin of Chrome… for some reason I thought it would be just using the chrome engine, not all of Chrome.

Right back when they announced that they would be using chromium/blink they implied that was going to be the only change, the front-end would remain the same. Now they say they are building the interface from the ground up.
I feel they have bitten off more than they can chew and most things are not possible using chromium/blink and a lot of what should be core functions are going to be relegated to extensions. The antithesis of Opera Presto.
