    From the guys who gave us Opera comes a new browser. A technical preview has been released which you can download from here Chrome based but the UI is more like the old Opera with notes, bookmarks, (email coming later down the line). Basically all the things that Opera ASA told us was not possible in Opera 15+ Maybe one worth keeping an eye on, for us old Opera devotees.

    I have heard many of you refer to Total Commander. I currently use Xyplorer –- which in many ways is nice. But (a) there is almost always some glitch that causes it to crash if I use it as the default file manager, and (b) the developer’s help files are less than adequate, and the developer won’t give any help. So I am thinking about changing. Are you happy with it? Is it stable? Instructions clear?

    Recommendations for backup software?

    I do not want cloud backup. I have a service and am happy with it. I do not want imaging backup. Tried it and didn’t like it. I want a program that will backup the files I specify efficiently (without insanely slowly down the system), on a schedule, and with some decent options (exact copy, plain copy, versions, etc.). I have used a program I liked (SecondCopy) for at least a dozen years. Never thought I would change. But they are now on beta 4 on Version 9 – after starting on beta 1 some 7-8 months ago. It is still plagued with nagging problems. I keep trying it, finally uninstall the beta and reinstalling version 8. This is getting tiresome. It is time to look for an option. However, I am not having any luck. I keep find online backups and imaging software. But I don’t want either. Ideas? I would appreciate your guidance. Hugh

    Who uses cobian backup?

    For backup my documents i use cobian backup for some years. Ones everything is set, it runs by itself and the user don’t have to worry that there will be a failure with the backup. Are there people who uses cobian backup or is everyone using PA backup? I don’t know if i must ask the next question in this section or in the wishlist. Cobian backup is for sale. Is Conexware interested in the program or trying to implement the advanced option(scheduled backup parts)? Now i’m using the standard version of PA, but scheduling the backup is the only thing that i’m not satisfied about.

    When I try to select the forum on website shown on my WP7 phone, it never shows the dropdown list, It just reloads the page. When clicking on community. the dropdown list flashes by and the page is reloaded. Anything you can do about this?

    So Opera is moving to Webkit. Presto will be no more. Opera gears up at 300 million users 300 million users strong, Opera moves to WebKit Good or bad? I’m undecided. If the great things that Opera is good at, security, customisation and innovation continue then I suppose it won’t make much difference to the normal user. At least it will bring an end to those sites that use browser sniffing to prevent Opera users using their sites properly. :rolleyes:

CCleaner does include PowerArchiver but it is prior 2009 and doesnt include the latest versions recent history. Hense why i wrote this.     Question for you guys… I’ve never used any of the current breeds of software that enable you to install an operating system onto a virtual drive and I’m wondering if this is at all possible… can I install vmware workstation then create a virtual drive via it and install the OS of my choice and then after a period of time if I’m satisfied with it can I then copy that OS from the virtual drive to a secondary hard drive or is that not possible? or do I have to reinstall from scratch to secondary hard drive ? I’m hoping to install an older OS and once it’s running as I want it I want to take an image of it using Acronis True Image…that way I can use it or store it. I’m relying on your wealth of knowledge in this dept…:) many thanks, Mike.

    Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone will be buying the Battlefield 3 game and if so why and what console? I personally, have a major interest in BF3 and have played BF2 since I found out about its dynamic enviroment and 95% destructable Frostbite system.                     I pretty much agree with you at first glance…I think it’s the predicted speed increases that interests me though ‘Lux’

                    can’t say I’m a fan of the gui at present but you can revert to current windows view I’m led to believe if you so wish.

                          I believe the Metro Interface will work very nice on Tablets and Mobile Phones. I have Windows Phone 7.5 on my mobile and the Metro Gui works excellent.

                          The problem here is that Metro isn’t designed to be used with a keyboard and a mouse. I don’t understand how MS could come up with this idea of mixing two totally different GUI:s with each other.

                              I hate Metro and cannot use it.

                              More seriously, 8 uses hibernation by default and the way MSoft has implemented it, leads to file corruption.

                                    I’ve read a lot about win8. Good and bad. I’m going to reserve my comments until I install the RTM version. I should have access to it on the 15th.

                                      Well, I’m kinda nervous about PC gaming when it comes to Windows 8. Valve head honcho, Gabe Newell just called Windows 8 a catastrophe for the PC. This is a guy with an inside knowledge of Windows 8 capabilities and limitations.

                                      I guess the biggest problem with Windows 8 is the fact that they want to create a similar ecosystem to Apple via an app store.

                                      Well Valve is trying out Steam for Ubuntu just to make sure that PC gaming will still be viable in case Windows 8 goes belly up like Vista.

                                        Oh my goodness…… I really thought people were bashing windows 8 for no reason. So far the only thing I like about it is IE10 the rest does not belong on a laptop or desktop.

                                        IMO the UI is fugly!

                                        90% of the default apps are useless (for my proposes). If fact the only one I found useful was the weather app.

                                        And the 1 thing I dislike most is I had to activate the installation before I could start customizing. In fact it would not install without the product key.

                                        I am definitely keeping win7 on my laptop and desktop!

                                            I cant believe that Microsoft has filled an DMCA notice to google to remove this thread from google search… I would guess official reason is Metro screenshot and real one is that few people expressed negativity about Metro… that is so freaking strange.
