Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats? Its structure is similar to MS Office 2007 documents and Open Document Format. It is a ZIP Deflate archive with XML data and some JPG, and/or PNG pictures inside. Otherwise, if I try to compress .3MF it bearly makes it smaller unless I recompress .3MF to the Store setting then it makes it a lot smaller.
Wish they all would move to 7zip ZSTD in the first place so that the optimized file size with FileOptimizer would be 50% of the ZIP Deflate version. And there would be no extra compression needed :)

    Optimize archive on Context Menu
    W

I noticed that the option to add the optimize archive function to the context menu is missing on Windows 10.
Opening each archive with the interface in order to click it becomes tedious with many files.

Same for others functions like Remove Archive Encryption

      Hi,

Implementing a mechanism in PA giving the ability to browse archives as if they were regular folders (as we already can do with zip archives since windows
      9X).

he wants PA integrating into Windows Explorer… This is actually patented by ZipMagic I believe, although they did not issue new release in a while…

this is also used in comprexx so it can’t really be patented. Powerdesk file manager uses a similar method to zip magic. I aggree it can be done. Its up to you if you really wnat to do it or can do it.

comprexx is turkish company. Zip Magic has indeed an Patent to it, and it came out 5-6 years before comprexx.

                You can check the USPTO.

We can actually do it, but it would be an separate product.

There is a much needed feature that is a slight extension of PA and this concept, which would open up an entirely new product-line for PA, I believe.

If PA could represent compressed files as folders, not just through Explorer, but at a lower level where they could be shared this way (or to implement a MS-DFS style tool that accomplished this), this would open up an entirely new product that will be first in the emerging home-theater/DVD-archive market, in addition to the obvious benefits by people that need this feature for other more generic purposes.

Please see this post, where I mention PA specifically:

Comprexx, is currently about to be sold …

But even if you have to do it in another product, yes, please do it !

On this matter, Joseph Leung, the maker of QuickZip, the product I have been testing during last weeks, has released a new project named Archive folder which exactly does it.
You can find more information about it in his forum at http://www.quickzip.org/forums/index.php

all functionality already exists, but the problem is time… we wont have time for something like this anytime soon.

Ok, so take your time, but please, remind you of, and implement it later … when you’ll find, more time to do so …

Personally, I’m not fond of the idea. I always unregister zipfldr.dll because I find it annoying. I would only support this as an option, not the default mode of operation.

I agree with By-Tor, I hate that feature in XP and I always disable it first thing. Archives are files, they are not folders. Of course I wouldn’t mind if it were added as long as it was able to be turned off.

it’s more of a nice to have than a need to have. I personaly agree with by-tor and Banquo, a zip file is a “file” not a folder.

Should such an option be added to PA set it disabled as default.
